World Plumbing Day

world plumbers dayPlumbing is arguably one of the most important inventions in today’s society.  Clean drinking water and effective sanitation methods are essential to our health; life as we know it would be significantly more stressful and dangerous without them.

Clean water is not a luxury to all. The World Health Organization estimates 1.1 billion people are without safe water supplies.   It truly is tragic to think that 8500 children are likely to die today as a result of lack of access to basic plumbing facilities.  With more people dying from disease caused by not having a toilet than from HIV/AIDS, malaria & TB combined there is an obvious problem that raising awareness can help fix.

Today is World Plumbing Day and it is a day to think about how fortunate you are to have access to indoor plumbing and clean water. Indoor plumbing might seem trite and true, but it is something you should not take for granted. The plumbing industry plays a key role in utilizing new technology to make indoor plumbing as easy to access as possible but it also plays a role in protecting the environment by providing safe fresh water and sanitation through proper management, care, reuse and conservation of natural resources.

The video below shows to some extent the role the plumbing industry plays in alleviating the concern for safe and abundant drinking water, but really plumbers play a life- saving role in keeping our world clean and healthy.
